About Recipe

Granola certainly tastes like a treat, but it doesn’t have to be unhealthy! This homemade healthy granola is naturally sweetened with a small amount of maple syrup and contains far less oil than most store-bought versions.

In less than an hour you can make your own crunchy granola. That’s 10 minutes to whip up the granola mixture and 35-45 minutes in the oven, so you’re not even actively cooking for an hour. Little effort, lots of flavour. Win-win if you ask me.

Love chocolate and want to make this granola even more of a treat? Try adding cocoa nibs. Now, I’m not talking about chocolate chips (although that would probably be nice too…), but pure cocoa beans, packed with flavonols, for a grown-up chocolatey flavour.

This granola is vegan, gluten free (ensure your oats are marked as gluten free) and naturally sweetened. What’s not to like?!

  • 6 dl/2.5 cups rolled oats
  • 1 dl/0.4 cups sunflower seeds
  • 1 dl/0.4 cups pumpkin seeds
  • 1 dl/0.4 cups coarsely chopped hazelnuts
  • 1 dl/0.4 cups coarsely chopped almonds
  • 1 dl/0.4 cups coarsely chopped cashew nuts
  • 0.5/0.2 cups desiccated coconut
  • 3 tbs sunflower oil
  • 2 tbsp maple syrup
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 pinch cinnamon
  • 1 pinch sea salt
  • 1 dl/0.4 cups raisins
  • 1 tbsp chia seeds

Preheat your oven to 150°C.

Coarsely chop hazelnuts, almonds and cashew nuts.

Place oats, sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds, shredded coconut, hazelnuts, almonds and cashew nuts in a big bowl.

Mix sunflower oil, maple syrup, vanilla extract, sea salt and cinnamon in a separate bowl and pour over the oat mixture.

Using a spoon or your hands, ensure your oat mixture is evenly coated with oil.

Spread your granola mix over a large baking sheet and bake in the oven for 15 minutes. Stir your granola and bake for another 10 minutes. Repeat this procedure every 10 minutes until your granola is crisp and golden. The total baking time will be around 35-45 minutes, depending on your oven.

Remove the baking tray from the oven and add raisins and chia seeds before leaving your granola to cool off.

To keep your granola nice and crisp, store it in an airtight container at room temperature.
